Every Student Every Day Attendance Policy

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY
  • Students need to attend school every day and on time to learn.  We believe that EVERY DAY COUNTS.  Good attendance and punctuality contribute to student’s success in high school and college.  
  • Please have your child arrive no later than 8:15 AM using the appropriate arrival door.  All arrival doors close at 8:20 AM.  If you arrive after 8:20 AM, you must enter through the main entrance and receive a late pass. No exceptions.   Excessive absences and/or lateness affect your child’s social-emotional and academic growth.
  • Upon returning to school after an absence, please write a note to the teacher explaining the reason for the absence or submit a doctor’s note. 
  • Vacations while schools are in session are unexcused absences. All vacations are strongly encouraged to be planned around the NYC Public Schools Calendar when school is not in session. 
  • For safety and supervision, NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE PICKED UP BEFORE DISMISSAL, except in an emergency or with prior communication with administration.  Whoever picks up the child must be authorized to do so on the blue card. 
  • Similar to vacation, please make appointments on weekends, after school, or when school is not in session.
  • Personalized attendance letters will be sent home monthly to provide updates on how your students are doing. You can also monitor your student’s attendance by logging into your NYC Schools Account.
NYC PUBLIC SCHOOL ATTENDANCE POLICIES 
  • About 1 in 4 students are chronically absent in NYC schools.  A chronically absent student is defined as having missed 10%, or a month or more of school, in a single school year. 
  • Attendance is a required, legal record.
  • Excused absences are still absences. 
  • Schools must contact the student's family after every absence.

  • Students will be awarded with perfect attendance awards on a monthly basis. 
  • Students who earn 100 percent attendance in the Fall, Winter and Spring will participate in our AttenDANCE party. 
  • Students have the chance to earn ‘STAR-BUCKS’ where they can exchange for rewards by having their number called during our morning EVERY STUDENT EVERY DAY attendance raffle drawing during morning announcements! 
  • Grades will participate in monthly “Attendance Tournaments” where classes will be awarded for highest attending class and most improved attendance.
